I’m an experienced manager and entrepreneur, married to a local medical doctor and dad to three grown-up children. The safety business I set up 25 years ago (and which I still work for) is now a national business employing over 80 people - so I know the importance of good teamwork and how tough it can be in business through a long recession.
Working for residents in Clifton I’m focused on making walking and cycling safer, strengthening library and community centre provision, and improving local transport. I chaired the Community Asset Transfer panel for the former Jacobs Wells Baths, with a view to restoring its use as a community building, and secured funding for the planned new zebra crossing at the bottom of Constitution Hill.
Working at the council I’m concerned with scrutinising the administration and holding the Mayor to account, particularly on urgent issues such as air quality. Toxic air is a genuine public health crisis across Bristol and also impacts many of my residents in the Hotwells road area. Greens have been pushing the Council to take action on this since passing a council motion back in 2016 and I have been challenging the Labour administration over its failure to deliver.
I bring a detail-oriented approach to my work which in 2019 helped me in creating an amendment to the council’s budget which will charge energy inefficient commercial properties to fund measures to reduce local flooding, tougher enforcement action on fly-tipping, and develop a 12 year plan to make Bristol carbon neutral by 2030.
I have led on local development issues for the Greens, including work that resulted in the Government refusing to allow Cribbs Causeway planning permission to expand, and leading the Green campaign to build a city arena at Temple Meads in the city centre, not at Filton.
