Darren Hall for Bristol West

Darren grew up in Berkeley, Gloucestershire and now lives and works in Bristol.

He studied mechanical engineering at Swansea University and in 1990 joined the Royal Air Force as an Engineering Officer. He returned to Bristol in 2001 to work for the Home Office as a crime and drugs manager, later promoted to Regional Manager. In 2010 Darren moved to work for the City Council to run the Bristol Green Capital Partnership, project managing the team that won the European Green Capital Award. He is now a freelance project manager in the social and environmental sector.

Darren is the Founding Directer of The Pale Blue Dot, and a Director of the Big Green Week Community Interest Company. He is the Editor of Good Bristol, a magazine and website that promotes ethical and sustainable local businesses and community organisations. He is also a board member of the Bristol Community Land Trust. In his spare time, Darren is a keen surfer, cyclist and photographer.

Natalie Bennett the leader of the Green Party of England and Wales has been in Bristol to offer her support: “Darren Hall is a fantastic candidate and has already been an advocate for Bristol on an international stage,” said Ms Bennett. “The Green Party has majority support here in Bristol West based on recent local election results. If people in each neighbourhood vote the same way they voted in their last local election, Bristol West will have a Green MP by May next year. This is great news for the city.”

Darren can win in Bristol West!

Darren Hall is challenging Liberal Democrat Stephen Williams MP, and Labour's Thangham Debonnaire, who is also standing for the seat. The contest is likely to be a closely fought three-way marginal

Taking into account the last local election for the nine Bristol West wards, the Green Party has the highest vote share with 28%, Labour taking 26%, Liberal Democrats 24% and the Conservatives only 13%. In the two Bristol West wards that had elections in May 2013, the Green Party won both by big margins; doubling our previously-held majority in Bishopston, and gaining more than double the Liberal Democrat vote in Redland. This is how people are voting locally, and is a good indication of people’s values and desires for their home city.
