Cllr Lisa Stone amended the motion to “strengthen and support” it.
Last night, Bristol Council voted for a motion that calls on the Council and national parties to do more to support the caring economy.
Green Councillors supported the Labour motion and amended it before the meeting to include requests to lobby all national party group leaders rather than just the current Government.
The amendment also included asking all leaders to adopt the TUC strategy for the Care Workforce [1], including decent pay and conditions developed with those in the workforce, secure contracts, a minimum wage of £15 per hour, sick pay and pay for all hours worked; skills training and progressive pathways across the health, social care, education and early years sector.
It also included lobbying party leaders for adequate resources so that local authorities can implement the National Care Service.
Cllr Stone, who put forward the amendment said; “I moved this amendment to strengthen and support this motion. As a general election looms, we must lobby national party leaders to fund the caring economy through financially supporting childcare and adult social care.
“For the Greens a caring economy is wider than pre-school childcare; carers also care for vulnerable adults and our elders, so we have also proudly added in the asks from the TUC strategy for the Care Workforce and Bristol Women’s Voice’s Caring Economy Manifesto [2].”
“The Green party wants to see a progressive economy where welfare economics is applied to how we measure the success of our society, and how this affects the overall well-being of people.”
