Mayoral Manifesto 2016 - NHS & Social Care

Bristol is a great city and it can be so much better!

The Green Mayor and Bristol’s Green Party Council candidates wish to see Bristol continue as the leading Green city in the UK with a clear vision of a more sustainable, better future. Our particular focus in 2016 is on Clean and Affordable Energy, A Decent Home for Everyone, 21st Century Education and Skills and Sustainable Transport and Clean Air.

Tony Dyer - Green Party candidate for mayor

A Green Mayor would make health, including mental health, a priority for all council activity, ensuring it informs the work of housing and planning departments, parks services, transport, neighbourhood partnerships and education, as well as directly health-related areas such as public health.

The Green Mayor would work closely with other relevant partner organisations, especially the NHS, the voluntary sector and the police to ensure that a joined up service is available to the people of Bristol.

The Green Mayor will also support important information- gathering work such as the strategic needs assessment, and will use this information to lobby central government for appropriate funding of health and social care.

Greens successfully submitted a motion to the February 2016 meeting to increase funding available to adult social care by £3.5m per annum. Adult social care goes to support the most vulnerable members of our community. The government austerity programme, combined with increasing demands of an ageing population is putting our ability to fund this vital service under serious threat. Without our support, the situation would have been significantly worse.
