Earlier this month, five Green Councillors called in a decision made by Cabinet to increase allotment rents and charges across the city.
The decision made by the call-in subcommittee, which convened on Tuesday, was for the original cabinet decision not to go ahead. Instead, the decision will be reexamined by the new Public Health and Communities Committee after the elections in May.
The decision has been welcomed by campaigners.
Despite this result, Green councillors have criticised the Labour chaired call-in meeting.
Cllr Tom Hathway, Deputy leader of the Green Group and one of five Greens who called in the decision described the meeting as ‘an absolute shambles’.
Cllr Martin Fodor said: “This call-in meeting was specifically convened to hear our complaint about the shortcomings in the process of how the March Cabinet decision on Allotment rents was made.”
“The lack of openness, poor account of the consultation findings and the equalities aspects were all ignored and our case was never heard or acknowledged. When the new committees are formed I sincerely hope there will be a more collaborative approach involving stakeholders in a meaningful way.”
“On top of all this, the Labour-chaired call-in meeting was one of the most shambolic meetings I have ever experienced in my decade as a councillor.”
“Bristol Greens are committed to a more collaborative and open way of working with all parties and communities to improve the way in which decisions are made in this city.”
