Bristol City Council is currently planning to close Kingsdown Sports Centre next year, a valuable local asset for many people in Cotham and neighbouring wards, and the only affordable sports facility in the area.
While the Council is running a consultation on leisure centres, all of the options consulted on will include closing the Kingsdown Centre. This decision was made by Bristol’s Labour Mayor Marvin Rees at a Council cabinet of Bristol City Council on 19th September. The report is available here.
This decision has been made without the local community or elected councillors for the area – Green Councillors Mohamed Makawi and Guy Poultney – having any opportunity to make the case for the council to save Kingsdown Sports Centre.
Guy and Mohamed have organised a petition calling on the Labour Mayor and Cabinet to reverse their decision to stop operating the Kingsdown Sports Centre. You can sign it at: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/save-kingsdown-sports-centre
