Council opposes further cuts to NHS

Bristol City Council voted on Tuesday to take a stand against further cuts to the NHS and social care. Green, Labour and Lib Dem councillors put aside political differences to vote for a joint Green and Labour motion opposing the £305 million of cuts to health and social care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

The motion responds to the Government’s recent decision to divide the country into 44 areas, each of which is being asked to come up with a ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plan’ to meet healthcare needs within an ever-tightening budget.

Green Councillor Fi Hance, who seconded the motion and Green Councillor Eleanor Combley who sits on the Council’s people scrutiny which deals with health issues gave speeches calling for Government to increase NHS funding to at least 10% of GDP in line with other EU countries:
