Four Bristol Green Councillors have already raised thousands of pounds as part of Homeless Awareness Week 2017 in Bristol and hope to raise even more. The four Councillors will be sleeping rough tomorrow night in order to raise money for The Big Issue Foundation.
The four Councillors, Stephen Clarke (Southville), Paula O’Rourke (Clifton), Carla Denyer (Clifton Down) and Eleanor Combley (Bishopston & Ashley Down) will be sleeping out at Pip n Jay Church in the centre of Bristol.
Councillor Carla Denyer commented,
“It’s great to see such generosity coming from the people of Bristol. To have thousands of pounds already pledged is wonderful. This fundraiser is so that we can offer more support immediately to those most in need. “However, the wider crisis facing homelessness services in Bristol, because of the cuts, needs long-term political change. That is why we recently submitted a motion to Bristol Council.”
She added,
“We are extremely grateful to all those who have contributed to our fundraising campaign but would encourage anyone who can spare a few pounds to visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/bristolgreencllrs”.
