This week in Parliament, Carla Denyer MP called on the government to recognise the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza as genocide, and for all arms sales to Israel to be suspended.
Carla secured a debate on the issue after the Israeli government announced its plan to annex more areas of Gaza, forcibly displacing Palestinians from their land.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Carla said:
“The Israeli government’s brutal decision to expand its military operations in Gaza is not security. It is domination and erasure. It comes on top of 18 months of collective punishment, including since 2 March, the longest aid blockade since the war began. Will the minister now finally name what is happening as genocide?”
She continued, “And to ensure that the UK is not complicit with Israel’s ongoing genocide, illegal occupation and system of apartheid? Will he immediately suspend the direct and indirect supply, sale or transfer, including transit and trans-shipment to Israel, of all weapons, munitions and other military and security equipment?”
