Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall backs Molly Scott Cato for Bristol West

Bristol Green Party is delighted to announce that the Bristol-based award-winning broadcaster, chef, environmental campaigner, and journalist Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will be voting for Molly Scott Cato in Bristol West. 
 
In Bristol West, where it is a two-horse race between Greens and Labour, Hugh is urging voters to make history and ‘make safeguarding the environment a vital matter for any future government’ by sending another Green MP to Westminister.
 
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, who is not usually so candid about his voting intention, said:
 
“I don’t usually go public on how I plan to vote in the election, but on this occasion, I don’t mind anyone knowing that I will be voting for Molly Scott Cato, the Green Party Candidate in Bristol West. I’ve met Molly, and I think she’ll be a great MP, alongside her Green Party leader Caroline Lucas – of whom I’m also an admirer. There’s a real danger that the environmental agenda will be buried in this election – and in whatever form of Brexit prevails after the vote is in. We need, therefore, MPs in Westminster who will fight for the environment – for the protection of our amazing natural assets, and for sustainable farming, fishing and energy production in the UK. There may be politicians in other parties who also care about these issues, but they are in danger of being overruled and outnumbered by those who clearly don’t. By voting Green in every constituency where their candidate has a fighting chance, we can make safeguarding the environment a vital matter for any future government.”
 
Molly Scott Cato recently won the backing of activist and journalist George Monbiot for her environmental pledges. The National Health Action Party has also endorsed Molly as the Bristol West candidate most likely to fight to restore a truly public, fully funded national health service.
 
Upon receiving the latest endorsement, Molly said:
 
“Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has done a huge amount to promote the ideals of localism and sustainable, small-scale ethical farming practices. Hugh is also a dedicated environmental and animal welfare campaigner and activist. These are issues that cut right to the heart of the Green Party. I’m, therefore, delighted that Hugh, who is not in the habit of backing political parties, has decided to stick his head above the parapet in this most important of elections.”

“The environment nor climate has been a feature of the Conservatives, Lib Dems or Labour’s election campaigning. And as we have just seen from Theresa May’s limp response to Donald Trump’s decision to eject the US from the vital Paris Agreement, we are faced with a Prime Minister gleefully walking hand in hand with the world’s greatest environmental polluter; sacrificing the climate and the UK’s environment at the altar of a dodgy trade deal.”

“The outrage over his decision to turn his back on one of the globe’s most important treaties has raised climate change up the political agenda just in time for this week’s general election. With that in mind, it is clear that, as Hugh has recognised by endorsing me for Bristol West, we need more Green MPs demanding stronger action on climate change now more than ever.”
