Bristol’s Green MP and Councillors have called on Bristol Labour MPs and Councillors to publicly condemn the Government’s decision to approve the Jackdaw gas field, and call for a renewed commitment to tackling the climate emergency.
Speaking on the decision, Councillor Abi Finch, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Policy Committee said, “This decision is a huge slap in the face for all of us working to tackle the climate emergency and prepare for more extreme weather like we saw this summer.
“Bristol has worked tirelessly to establish itself as a leader on climate action. We were the first council to declare a climate emergency and have reduced our direct emissions by 75% since 2015.
“This decision will not bring down bills or protect jobs and will only provide profit to the fossil fuel companies that are wrecking our planet.
“Bristol Labour must condemn this act of climate vandalism and commit to supporting a rapid transition to clean energy .”
